Synergy Movement Therapy

Synergy offers 1-on-1 private, semi-private and small group classes with instructors that have completed a comprehensive Pilates or yoga training as well as training on Synergy rehab protocols. Our carefully selected team has been trained by Dr. Awan, Riki Richter and other Synergy rehabilitation providers and are part of a multidisciplinary team that holds regular clinical collaborations in order to provide best practices in patient care. They are trained to use an electronic medical record to maximize communication and provide optimal patient charting. A home exercise program can be developed using synergy rehab protocols or specialized Pilates equipment: the reformer, the cadillac, the wunda chair and the arm chair may be used to increase strength using spring resistance.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual therapy aimed at treating the source of dysfunction in the body in order to maximize health. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners at Synergy use a variety of gentle hands-on techniques to address common musculoskeletal issues such as neck pain and low back pain, and other musculoskeletal symptoms that may be associated with systemic issues such as diagnosed digestive difficulties, respiratory conditions, and gynecological dysfunction. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners’ extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology is used to assess and treat interrelationships between various systems in the body to address barriers to the healing process.

Synergy’s osteopathic manual practitioners are graduates of comprehensive osteopathic programs: The Canadian College of Osteopathy and are members of the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners or the international equivalent.

Physiotherapy : Orthopaedic

We help modify certain patterns of movement or posture to create a new, more optimal situation in the body. The nature of your pain and functional issues will be assessed to determine the appropriate physio-therapeutic intervention – to pinpoint the source of the problem and create a road-map for recovery. Our team of practitioners have specialties in a wide range of areas which allows us to select someone for you that is passionate and knowledgeable about your condition. This in turn allows them to focus their professional development accordingly and stay at the leading edge of their field. Your physiotherapist is trained to appropriately recommend any service (so many of which are available at Synergy) to help you continue to recover, to your fullest extent. Physiotherapists here collaborate in house with other professions in various ways, with the purpose of understanding how and when other practitioners may be helpful to their client’s health and well-being.

Physiotherapy : Pelvic Health

The pelvic floor is a hammock of muscles, tendons and ligaments that support the pelvic organs such as the bladder and uterus and is involved in controlling continence and the maintenance of a healthy sex life. Women more commonly have pelvic floor dysfunction due to childbirth trauma and menopausal hormone changes, but dysfunction also occurs in men, often due to prostate conditions. Like any other area in the body, some of the muscles may be tight and need to soften and lengthen, and others may be weak and require strengthening. Synergy’s Pelvic Health Program takes an integrated interdisciplinary approach towards comprehensive rehabilitation of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Physiotherapy : Vestibular

The assessment and treatment of certain conditions that can cause dizziness. Dizziness is a general term; individuals with dizziness may feel more specific symptoms such as vertigo (their environment spinning), light-headedness, floating or feeling off-balance.

Chiropractic Medicine

A non-invasive, drug-free, manual approach to health care for disorders related to the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic treatment can in many cases decrease pain, muscle tightness or spasm through the restoration of normal mechanics and improve the functioning of the spine. Synergy Chiropractors may use manual and/or instrument-assisted (Graston Technique) manipulation to find and break down scar tissue, increase your range of motion in your neck, back, face, or limbs, and relieve tension in your neuro-musculoskeletal system. We can also create custom orthotics to realign the joints in your feet and ease some of the impact from walking or running.

Accupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile, disposable needles into targeted points along muscles, nerves, tendons, and fascia to stimulate a physiological response that supports the body’s natural healing process. The needles are typically left in place for 10 to 30 minutes, and during the session, they can be manipulated to maximize the therapeutic effect.

Acupuncture enhances blood and oxygen flow, stimulates the nervous system, clears energy blockages, and activates an immune response to promote tissue repair. At Synergy, we provide a range of acupuncture techniques, including TCM acupuncture, dry needling, and neurofunctional acupuncture

Ultrasound Guided Injections

Ultrasound imaging can be used to guide an injection with real time visualization. The doctor can track the needle path to the intended target making the procedure both safe and more accurate. Although the procedure is covered by OHIP the medication injected is not and therefore the fee will be charged to the patient. For patients requiring injection for pain reduction in order to improve their daily activities and facilitate rehabilitation.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective and non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s healing process by applying strong mechanical energy pulses to an injury site. This is accomplished by stimulating cell metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to promote connective tissue healing, reduce pain and restore mobility.

Shockwave Therapy can treat the following conditions:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Heel Spurs
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
